A tribute to Li Keran’s legacy in modern Chinese art
    2024-10-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THIS year marks the 70th anniversary of Li Keran’s (1907-1989) pivotal contribution to modern Chinese painting. As a prominent 20th-century artist, Li played a crucial role in revitalizing Chinese art during a time of skepticism and transformation. In 1954, Li led a sketching tour across southeastern China, proving that traditional Chinese painting could capture the spirit of a new era. His efforts redefined the genre, merging classical techniques with modern perspectives.

An exhibition held at the Shenzhen Art Museum in Longhua, featuring Li’s early sketches and iconic landscapes, showcases his journey of artistic innovation. His signature “Li-style landscapes” not only preserved tradition but also pushed the boundaries of Chinese painting. This exhibition not only pays tribute to his legacy but also invites visitors to reflect on the timeless value of cultural heritage and its ongoing relevance.

Let’s have a look on some of the paintings and exhibits on display through the lens of Shenzhen Daily photographer Lin Jianping. (Song Yingwen)
