SHENZHEN, renowned for its dynamic tech industry, unveils another facet with its concealed literary gems nestled within the charming parks of the city. A sanctuary for bibliophiles, these captivating reading spots offer a fusion of natural splendor and mental retreat.

Plumeria Book Bar

Named after the plumeria, small tropical trees noted for their fragrant flowers, this bar is a hidden oasis in the Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden, catering to book enthusiasts. Hosting a collection of botanical literature amidst lush greenery, the bar provides cozy reading corners, a relaxing bar area, and an outdoor scenic viewing platform for visitors to lose themselves in a world of words amidst serene surroundings. Spanning over 440 square meters, this forest bar is nestled within the haven for botanical lovers in Luohu District.

Venue: 160 Fairy Lake Road, Luohu District

Opening hours: 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m, closed on Mondays

Transportation: Metro Line 8 to Fairy Lake Road Station, Exit C2

Lanyue Book Bar

Situated within the Yangtai Mountain Forest Park, this book bar showcases literature reflecting China’s revolutionary era. Visitors can delve into classic red books while soaking in the park’s literary atmosphere, offering an ideal setting for intellectual exploration and relaxation. The book bar is of two floors: The first floor is a haven for immersing in classic red literature and absorbing the park’s literary essence, while the second floor is designed for group activities as an educational hub.

Venue: Inside Shiyan Plaza, Yangtai Mountain Forest Park, Bao’an District

Opening hours: 10 a.m.-noon, 2-6 p.m., closed on Mondays

Transportation: Take Bus M372 to Shixiaogongxue Station or M145 to Shiyan Cultural Center Station, then take a taxi

Zhangbei Country Park Book Bar

Standing out for its immersive experience, this rural book bar features transparent glass walls offering sweeping views of the Zhangbei Country Park. Visitors can delve into a diverse collection of nature-focused and educational literature, accompanied by a cup of coffee in a serene atmosphere.

Venue: At a summit in Zhangbei Country Park, Longgang District

Opening hours: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Golden Turtle Natural Reading Room

As the nation’s first nature-themed reading space, this establishment is a thematic haven where nature and literature intertwine. Housed in revamped ancestral structures, the 342-square-meter reading room offers a chance to adopt a naturalistic lifestyle and explore cultural products showcasing Pingshan’s local characteristics.
