BYD marked a historic moment during its 30th-anniversary celebration yesterday when its 10-millionth new electric vehicle (NEV) rolled off the line at its production base in Xiaomo Township, Shenzhen. This milestone — achieved just two months after BYD sold its 9-millionth NEV in September 2024 — underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable transportation and its role as a global automotive leader. During the event, BYD chairman and president Wang Chuanfu reflected on the company’s remarkable transformation from a small startup with just 20 employees to a multinational corporation with nearly 1 million staff. The executive also noted the brand’s dedication to technological innovation and its crucial role in shaping the future of mobility. BYD is the first automaker in the world to reach this groundbreaking NEV production figure. The company took 15 years to produce its first 5 million NEVs but achieved the next 5 million in just 15 months, highlighting its strategic focus on NEVs. The 10-millionth vehicle, a Denza Z9, was presented to Feng Ji, founder and CEO of Game Science, the visionary behind the critically acclaimed video game “Black Myth: Wukong.” Earlier this year, BYD partnered with Game Science as the exclusive automotive brand partner for the game. Looking ahead, Wang announced that BYD will invest 100 million yuan (US$13.8 million) in developing intelligent technologies that integrate artificial intelligence with automotive systems, intending to drive comprehensive upgrades across its entire vehicle lineup. This investment aims to keep BYD at the forefront of technological advancement, enhance its global competitiveness, and solidify its position as a world-class high-tech company. Founded in February 1995 in Shenzhen with just 20 employees and initial capital of 2.5 million yuan, BYD has grown into the world’s largest NEV manufacturer, employing over 900,000 people globally. BYD debuted its first electric vehicle, the F3e, in 2008, officially entering the NEV market. Fast-forward to 2020, BYD launched its Blade Battery, achieving breakthroughs in safety, range, and charging speed. The company also unveiled its hybrid DM platform the same year, further solidifying its NEV dominance. BYD also operates its own shipping service to export its cars. (SD-Agencies) |
