POSTGRADUATE students from home and abroad showcased their innovative projects at the finals of the 10th China Graduate Future Flight Vehicle Innovation Competition, which kicked off at the Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU) in Longgang District on Thursday.

A total of 229 teams from nearly 100 universities and research institutions around the globe advanced to the finals of this year’s competition.

The competition, which centers on aircraft technology innovation, seeks to motivate graduate students to engage in in-depth scientific and technological research, address key technical challenges, and enhance their scientific research and innovation capabilities as well as their engineering practice skills within the aerospace domain.

This year’s competition introduced an international track in addition to the regular, corporate, and challenge tracks. The preliminary round of this international track was conducted overseas for the first time at Russia’s prestigious Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), with a total of eight international teams qualifying for the finals at SMBU.

Denis Levent, from the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, valued the opportunity to present his project at the finals and said the competition was an excellent platform for students from diverse backgrounds to share ideas and foster innovation.

Levent’s project is a device that measures the spectrum of neutralization in space or the upper layers of the atmosphere. “This is also my first visit to Shenzhen. I enjoy the climate and the abundance of greenery. I really appreciate the environment,” Levent commented.

Li Hezhang, rector of SMBU, said SMBU is dedicated to creating a platform for international exchange and cooperation. He hoped for closer cooperation among universities, research institutions, and industries through the competition to jointly promote the innovative development of aerospace science and technology.

The competition was initiated this May. The winners will be announced and awarded during the closing ceremony, which is scheduled for Friday. Prizes range from 3,000 yuan (US$413) to 50,000 yuan.
