IN recent years, the macaques of Tanglang Mountain in Shenzhen have become increasingly active on social media, establishing themselves as a unique feature of the Tanglang Mountain Countryside Park. During holidays, a significant number of tourists gather to observe and interact with these monkeys, fostering scenes of harmonious coexistence between humans and primates. However, with the rise in visitor numbers, incidents of monkey aggression towards humans have occasionally occurred. Despite constant reminders from park management not to feed the monkeys, many residents continue to engage in unauthorized feeding and playful interactions with the animals. The monkeys in this area have suffered significant consequences due to human feeding, resulting in overnutrition and a decline in their natural habitats. A Macaque Protection Volunteer Team from the Taoyuan Subdistrict in Nanshan has been actively conducting wildlife protection activities for the monkeys over the past three months. They educate local residents and tourists on the importance of protecting wild macaques and advise against feeding or provoking the macaques, emphasizing the need to minimize human interference in their natural habitat to support their survival and reproduction. According to the park, it has about 20 wild macaques. (Tang Li) |
