Art breathes new life into historic village
    2024-12-17  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Painter Tang Wenbiao explains his oil painting to visitors at his studio in Shangwei Village, Longhua District. The painting is inspired by the kylin dance, a Guangdong provincial intangible cultural heritage. Since 2017, Shangwei, a 400-year-old Hakka village, has been transformed into a cultural hub through a government initiative that has encouraged artists to settle in and revitalize the ancient community. The village, which includes four 500-year-old watchtowers and nearly 50 traditional Hakka dwellings, now hosts a variety of studios, museums, exhibition halls, and nearly 100 artists who reside and work there.                                                                                   Xinhua
