French illustrator’s solo exhibition opens in Guangming
    2024-12-17  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

“BONJOUR La Ligne (Dear Line),” a solo exhibition by French illustrator Serge Bloch, is running at Guangming Culture and Art Center until April next year.

Born in 1956, Bloch is known for using simple lines to create whimsical and humorous works that feature everyday objects like light bulbs and stones.

An illustrator for prominent publications such as The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Chicago Tribune, The New York Times, Time, GQ, and Reader’s Digest, as well as over 300 books, he is also the author of several children’s books.

Bloch has received numerous prestigious accolades, including the Baobab Award, gold medals at the Society of Illustrators’ 47th and 57th annual exhibitions, and the BolognaRagazzi Award for Non Fiction.

A highly sought-after artist, Bloch has worked with major brands such as Hermès, Coca-Cola, Publicis, and Samsung. In 2010, his works appeared on stamps issued by France’s La Poste.

His exhibitions have been held in cities around the world, including Paris, New York, Seoul, Tokyo, Berlin, Geneva, Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen.

Covering approximately 1,000 square meters, the “Bonjour La Ligne” exhibition is divided into 15 zones, showcasing Bloch’s illustrations, installations, and more.

Zone B, titled “I’m Waiting,” is based on Bloch’s picture book of the same name.

Zone E, featuring a pink classroom, offers a cool space for visitors to reflect on various questions related to conflict.

In Zone G, “Serge’s Gallery” displays Bloch’s manuscripts, paintings, and ceramic sculptures.

In Zone I, visitors will enter the world of “bird man,” an image created by Bloch featuring a poker face with a bird-like beak.

One of the most interactive zones, Zone M, themed “Magical Curator,” invites visitors to combine everyday objects with Bloch’s drawings to create unique works.

Zone N, inspired by Bloch’s Paris exhibition “Laughing Boxes,” is filled with square boxes of varying sizes and designs.

In Zone O, visitors can try an interactive AR game using their phones, which is sure to bring plenty of laughter.

Dates: Until April 6, 2025

Venue: Guangming Culture and Art Center, Guangming District

Metro: Line 6 to Fenghuang Town Station, Exit B, then walk around 800 meters
