JAN.14 marks the start of Shenzhen’s 40-day Spring Festival travel season, or chunyun. This time of year sees millions of people traveling across the country to reunite with family or go on vacation. To meet the surge in demand, Shenzhen’s railway system will run more than 1,000 passenger trains daily, with Shenzhen North Railway Station running 400 night trains in the lead-up to the festival. At Shenzhen North Station, officials expect to manage around 17.6 million passenger trips, a 6.6% increase from last year. The busiest days of travel are expected between Jan. 25 and 27. Meanwhile, airlines such as Shenzhen Airlines and China Southern are adding extra flights to key domestic and international destinations. This year’s chunyun also holds special significance as Spring Festival was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list in December last year. (SD News) |
