Nepal charmed by SZ lion dance
    2025-01-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

The Shangchuan Huang Liansheng Lion Dance troupe from Bao’an District, Shenzhen, performs at the launch ceremony of the “Nepal Visit Year 2025” & “Chinese New Year 2025” event at Bhaktapur Durbar Square in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, on Saturday. The event aims to encourage Chinese tourists to visit the South Asian country. Shangchuan is a village located in Xin’an Subdistrict, Bao’an. Built during the Ming Dynasty, it is a typical Canton-style ancient village. The lion dance, which dates back to the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), gained wider popularity in the 1970s when the local martial arts master, Huang Liansheng, created the Shangchuan Huang Liansheng Lion Dance. In 2021, Huang’s lion dance was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage.      China News Service
