Urban ballads enthrall pop fans

THE “My Town My Folk” concert series wrapped up its second season with a spectacular finale Jan. 18 at the Futian Sports Park gymnasium.

Launched in November 2024, the event quickly became a landmark cultural celebration in Shenzhen, drawing folk musicians from around the world. The series, which ran for two months, showcased the rich diversity of folk music through a series of themed concerts that celebrated both traditional and contemporary expressions of the genre.

This year’s finale, themed “Folk Music: Always on the Road,” brought together a stellar lineup of artists, including Malaysian singer Ah-Niu, Hong Kong’s Jerry Lamb, mainland folk star Lu Zhongqiang, and the Italian folk band Suonnod’Ajere.

Special guests Zhang Gasong, Lu Zhongqiang, and Ye Bei added depth to the concert, each highlighting a different aspect of folk music.

The finale also celebrated Shenzhen’s local talent with a performance of “Shenzhen’s Song” by Luo Gaocheng, a local singer-songwriter. This marked a tribute to the city’s vibrant cultural scene.

Over the past two months,  “My Town My Folk” not only spotlighted folk music but also reinforced Shenzhen’s role as a cultural bridge in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, fostering artistic exchange and helping shape the future of folk music in the region.  (Song Yingwen)
