SZ logs 244 days of comfortable weather, no smog in 2024
    2025-02-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN recorded a total of 244 days of comfortable weather in 2024, which was 7.6 days more than the average of the past five years, as stated in a climate monitoring report released by the city’s meteorological authority.

Pingshan District (253 days), Dapeng New Area (250 days), and Yantian District (248 days) ranked among the top three in terms of the number of comfortable days.

Additionally, following the first record of zero smog days in 2023, Shenzhen achieved zero smog days for the second consecutive year in 2024, signifying continuous improvement in the city’s ecological and climatic conditions.

In 2024, the annual average concentration of PM2.5 in Shenzhen was 17.3 micrograms per cubic meter, ranking first among the 21 prefecture-level cities in the province.

Due to El Niño and La Niña — the opposite effect of El Niño, Shenzhen experienced higher-than-average temperatures and an increase in comfortable days last year.

Regarding meteorological disasters, the city witnessed frequent and prolonged heavy rainfall, fewer impacts from active typhoons in the South China Sea, and a higher incidence of severe convective weather with strong intensity. However, these meteorological disasters caused no casualties in the city. (Wang Jingli)
