A GUAN GONG-THEMED cultural exhibition is currently held at the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning, running until April 8. Spanning 1,500 square meters, the exhibition features over 60 works, including ancient artifacts, contemporary art, and intangible cultural heritage, offering an in-depth exploration of Guan Gong’s legacy as a figure of loyalty, righteousness, and bravery in Chinese history. Guan Gong, also known as Guan Yu, was a military general during the Three Kingdoms period (220-280). Revered for his virtues, he became not only a symbol of moral integrity but also a godly figure, honored as the God of War and the God of Wealth. The exhibition is divided into three sections: the first focuses on his historical life and military achievements; the second traces the evolution of his image from the Wei (220-265) and Jin (265-420) dynasties to the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) periods; and the third examines his deification and worship as the protector of merchants and warriors. The exhibition is a joint effort between the Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum, Yuncheng Museum, Guan Gong Cultural Museum, and the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning. (SD News) |
