
Wang Jingli wangjingli0715@163.com THE Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) announced the establishment of its School of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Thursday. It is the eighth school under CUHK-Shenzhen. During the inauguration ceremony held on the university’s Longgang campus Thursday, Fan Jianqing was appointed as the dean of the school. The school is set to welcome its first cohort of AI major freshmen this September. In his speech at the ceremony, Xu Yangsheng, president of CUHK-Shenzhen, emphasized that AI has been one of the university’s key academic priorities. He highlighted that the new school will collaborate with other schools and colleges within the university to explore comprehensive talent cultivation plans tailored to the AI era. The school is characterized by three core principles: AI Core, AI Plus, and AI For. AI Core focuses on foundational AI technologies, such as machine learning and intelligence science, which form the backbone of the school’s academic framework. AI Plus emphasizes interdisciplinary integration, combining AI with fields such as natural sciences, social sciences, arts, medicine, and more, fostering cutting-edge research that transcends traditional academic boundaries. AI For underscores the school’s mission to apply AI to address real-world challenges, including pressing issues in sectors such as medicine, education, transportation. |
