SHENZHEN has ushered in its key political season as the city’s political advisors and lawmakers gather for their annual meetings, known as the “two sessions.”

The annual meeting of the city’s political advisory body convened yesterday and will last for three days. The meeting for the city’s legislature is scheduled to open today and will conclude Thursday.

During the political advisory body’s meeting, political advisers are obligated to deliberate a work report of the body and hear a report on how political advisors’ proposals have been handled since last year’s annual session.

They will also hear a report on the examination of proposals submitted to this year’s annual session and hold group discussions on promoting the city’s development in various aspects.

Political advisor Yang Haobo, who is also a second-level inspector of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shenzhen Municipal Committee, plans to make a suggestion on constructing a museum themed on Shenzhen’s foreign affairs.

“As an international metropolis, Shenzhen needs a platform to showcase its history of foreign affairs and achievements in international exchanges. This is not only necessary for the city’s international development, but also an important measure to implement the concept of ‘foreign affairs for the people,’” Yang said.

She highlighted that establishing a museum focused on foreign affairs would offer residents a valuable platform to delve into the intricacies of diplomatic work, fostering greater interaction between the community and the realm of foreign affairs.

The meeting will also invite some overseas Chinese representatives, business representatives from China’s Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, and citizens to sit in on.

At the legislature’s annual meeting, the city’s lawmakers will deliberate the city government’s work report, as well as review the report on the implementation of the 2024 plan and the 2025 draft plan for the city’s economic and social development.

The agenda will also include a review of the report on the execution of local budgets for 2024 and the 2025 draft plan for local budgets. Work reports of the lawmaking body, the Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court, and the Shenzhen People’s Procuratorate will also be discussed. The city’s top 10 projects for improving people’s well-being in 2025 will be reviewed and decided at the meeting.
