Zhang Yu JeniZhang13@163.com SITHEMBISO NYONI, Zimbabwe’s minister of environment, climate, and wildlife, said during a visit to Shenzhen that Zimbabwe is looking forward to cooperating with Shenzhen in green infrastructure, wetlands conservation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable development. During a meeting with the minister Thursday, Shenzhen Deputy Mayor Dai Jintao said Shenzhen is ready to impart its technological acumen to Zimbabwe to facilitate Zimbabwe’s transition to a green economy and support its sustainable development goals. The 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties (COP15) is set to take place from July 23 to 31 of this year in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Dai stated that Shenzhen will lend it full support to the event’s preparations and organize a delegation to participate. Furthermore, Shenzhen is excited about the prospect of Zimbabwe becoming a member state of the International Mangrove Center, he said. Nyoni said the tour in Shenzhen, including the visit to the Futian Mangrove Ecological Park, was impressive. He praised Shenzhen’s speed and efficiency in promoting the establishment of the world’s first International Mangrove Center in the city. “We anticipate the signing of a cooperation agreement with the International Mangrove Center,” Nyoni said. Zimbabwean president Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa led a delegation to visit Shenzhen last September. While showing keen interest in BYD’s diverse range of new energy vehicles, Mnangagwa was enthusiastic about learning from Shenzhen’s expertise in smart city development and anticipates future opportunities for collaboration. |
