Two hit performances to grace Shenzhen stage
    2025-03-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

‘Only This Green’

Also named “Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting,” the dance is inspired by the famous Song Dynasty (960-1279) painting “A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains,” presenting the elegant charm of the Song Dynasty through dance.

At the age of 18, Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng crafted this approximately 12 meters long and 5 meters high masterpiece. The stunning masterpiece depicts undulating mountains, vast rivers, and houses dotted in between, all presented in spectacular detail.

The dance show is presented from the perspectives of a contemporary museum worker, the painter, and the “green” who exists as a painting spirit, allowing the audience not only to appreciate the thousands of miles of rivers and mountains in the painting, but also to encounter the people and traditions that have existed in China for more than 900 years.

Infused with classical, modern, and contemporary dance elements, the show leaves a lasting impression. The stage design exudes an elegant simplicity, complemented by stunning costumes.

The performance runs for 120 minutes.

Time: 8 p.m., April 3-6

Venue: Shenzhen Poly Theater, Nanshan District

Metro: Line 2, 11 or 13 to Houhai Station, Exit E

‘Tian Xia Da Zu’

Through a captivating performance, the dance drama unveils 400 years of history, shedding light on the unsung carving craftsmen, including the 46 named artisans from the Dazu rock carvings, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Southwest China’s Chongqing.

This performance honors the lasting legacy of these master sculptors, whose creations have made a profound impact on human civilization.

The narrative of “Tian Xia Da Zu” is set in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), focusing on a young man named Fu who finds sanctuary in Dazu town in Chongqing, where he apprentices under local sculptors. As Fu matures, he joins the sculptors in safeguarding this cultural heritage at great personal risk.

Zhang Han and Meng Qingyang will star in the production.

Time: 8 p.m., May 9; 2:30 p.m., 8 p.m., May 10

Venue: Bay Opera of Shenzhen, Bao’an District

Metro: Line 5 to Baohua Station, Exit A (Li Dan)
