Travelers gather to take group photos yesterday in front of murals depicting Yingge dance — an ancient warrior folk dance from the Chaoshan region of Guangdong Province — at the Changshawan Service Area on the Shenzhen-Shanwei West Expressway. The service area opened yesterday. Designed in the shape of a whale (see the picture to the right) and themed around Chaoshan culture, the service area innovatively integrates transportation with tourism and consumer experiences. Originally put into use in 1996, the Shenzhen-Shanwei West Expressway underwent reconstruction and was reopened to traffic in September 2024. Spanning 146 kilometers, the expressway begins in Lufeng City, Shanwei, and ends in Longgang District, Shenzhen. Xinhua |
