Travelers cross the border at Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint during the Qingming Festival holiday that concluded yesterday. During the three days, a surge of people from Hong Kong and Macao returning to their hometowns for ancestral worship, visiting relatives, and sightseeing, as well as mainland residents traveling to Hong Kong and Macao for leisure and shopping, led to a continuous high volume of passenger traffic at Shenzhen’s checkpoints. On Friday alone, the number of people entering and exiting Shenzhen’s checkpoints reached 1.038 million, surpassing the historical peak of 1.005 million set April 5, 2019 — Qingming Festival that year.
