Discovering icy thrills in tropical SZ
    2025-04-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Austrian players celebrate their 3:2 victory over Slovakia in a match yesterday during the ongoing 2025 IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) Women’s World Championship Division 1 Group A tournament at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Center in Longgang District. Shenzhen, which hosted the 2023 edition of the event, has become the first city in South China to host this top-tier ice and snow sports event twice. Despite its subtropical location, Shenzhen has broken geographical limitations and become a model city for the development of ice and snow sports in the south, thanks to policy support and breakthroughs in infrastructure. Currently, the city’s ice and snow sports venues receive over 500,000 visitors annually, and the number of ice hockey and figure skating clubs in the city ranks first in South China.Liu Xudong
