National boxing championship opens in Yantian
    2025-05-05  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE 2025 National Men’s Boxing Championship, which doubles as the qualification tournament for the 15th National Games, officially opened April 11 at the Yantian Sports Center.

Recognized as China’s top-tier platform for amateur men’s boxing, the event has drawn 42 teams and 308 athletes from across the country.

Over seven days, boxers competed across 13 weight categories — seven official National Games divisions and six non-Games categories.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Jian Zheng, deputy head of Yantian District, highlighted the district’s growing influence in the sports sector. “In recent years, Yantian has leveraged its unique coastal and mountainous resources to host a series of high-profile sporting events,” Jian said. “Our strategy of integrating sports with culture and tourism continues to drive Yantian’s development as a world-class seaside destination and outdoor sports hub,” he added.

Yantian has previously hosted major events such as the iQFoil Windsurfing World Cup, the China Triathlon Series Final, and the Shenzhen 100 Ultra Trail Race. (Liu Yangyang)
