Xiaomeisha EOD project named national model
    2025-05-05  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Xiaomeisha Ecological-Oriented Development (EOD) project in Yantian District, Shenzhen, has been named one of four national model cases by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

It is the only project from Guangdong Province to be selected, standing out for its innovative approach and notable results in combining environmental restoration with sustainable urban development.

The Xiaomeisha project has carried out comprehensive ecological restoration along mountain slopes, the Xiaomeisha River basin, and sandy coastlines. Over 2,400 native plant species, including Shenzhen-specific varieties like Camellia oleifera and Agastache rugosa, were introduced across a 200-square-meter area to enhance biodiversity.

Key environmental achievements include the restoration of 812.66 meters of river channel, the creation of 11,000 square meters of ecological wetlands, and the complete restoration of 33,000 square meters of beach and 800 meters of sandy shoreline. These efforts have significantly improved the area’s environmental quality and self-purification capabilities.

In addition, the project pioneers a new development model integrating ecological governance with the tourism and wellness industries. As part of Xiaomeisha’s broader redevelopment, the area now hosts premium tourism and leisure assets such as Sea World, the MGM Shenzhen Hotel, and the Diaoyutai Boutique Hotel.

Tailored to local strengths, the project also introduces high-end tourism and recreational projects, transforming Xiaomeisha from a beach destination into an international coastal resort offering a full-spectrum experience of “mountain, sea, river, lake, and city.”

Leveraging the restored Xiaomeisha River, the project connects major green spaces including Diecui Lake Country Park in the north and Seaside Park and adjacent coastal waters in the south, forming a high-quality ecological corridor that links the mountains, urban areas, and the sea. The project has improved the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.(Liu Yangyang)
