HEFEI-BASED Origin Quantum Computing Technology Co., developer of the Origin Wukong quantum computer, launched China’s fourth-generation self-developed quantum control system — Origin Tianji 4.0 — on Tuesday. The system supports over 500 qubits, marking a major milestone in China’s quantum technology ambitions. The company stated that this launch represents a key step toward scalable, industrialized production of hundred-qubit quantum computers, enabled by replicable and iterative engineering capabilities. A quantum control system acts as the “neural center” of a quantum computer, managing the generation, acquisition, and control of precise signals for quantum chips. Origin Tianji 4.0 is a major upgrade from its predecessor, version 3.0, which powered China’s third-generation superconducting quantum computer, Origin Wukong. According to China News Service, the new version features significant improvements in scalability, integration, stability, and automation. Kong Weicheng, deputy director of the Anhui Quantum Computing Engineering Research Center and leader of the Origin Tianji 4.0 research team, said the team has enhanced quantum chip control and readout precision through a fully self-developed hardware and software architecture, accelerating quantum computer development and deployment. Integrating Origin Tianji 4.0 with the company’s four self-developed core software systems has streamlined superconducting quantum chip testing, improving efficiency and accuracy. Tasks once requiring specialist expertise are now standardized workflows executable by regular engineers. Guo Guoping, director of the Anhui Quantum Computing Engineering Research Center and chief scientist at Origin Quantum, stated that Origin Tianji 4.0’s launch demonstrates China’s replicable, iterative quantum computing production capabilities, laying the foundation for mass-producing hundred-qubit quantum computers. Since its debut on Jan. 6 last year, the Origin Wukong quantum computer — powered by Origin Tianji 3.0 — has completed over 380,000 quantum computing tasks for more than 26 million users across 139 countries and regions, supporting fields like finance, biomedicine, and fluid dynamics. Global access to Origin Wukong has exceeded 20 million visits, with the most active users from the U.S., Russia, Japan, and Canada. Currently, Origin Tianji 4.0 is aiding the development of China’s next-generation quantum computer, positioning the country competitively in the global quantum technology race, Guo added.(SD-Agencies) |
