Jason Lyu, G9 吕致远 This May Day holiday, I spent three days in Hong Kong and two days in Macao, two of China’s most dynamic and culturally rich Special Administrative Regions (SARs). Both cities boast unique histories, vibrant cultures, and breathtaking attractions, making them popular destinations for travelers. Hong Kong, a global financial hub, is known for its stunning skyline, bustling streets, and fusion of Eastern and Western influences. Macao, on the other hand, is famous for its blend of Chinese and European heritage, historic landmarks, and lively casino resorts. Hong Kong’s energy was electrifying — everywhere I went, I was surrounded by towering skyscrapers and busy streets filled with people from all over the world. One of the highlights of my trip was visiting Victoria Peak, where I enjoyed a breathtaking panoramic view of the city’s skyline. As night fell, the city transformed into a dazzling spectacle, with countless lights twinkling like stars against the dark sky. I also explored Tsim Sha Tsui, strolling along the Avenue of Stars and soaking in the lively atmosphere of the waterfront. In Macao, I was fascinated by the seamless blend of Portuguese and Chinese cultures. The Ruins of St. Paul’s, a historic landmark with its grand façade and rich history, stood in beautiful contrast to the traditional Chinese temples nearby. For an adrenaline rush, I visited the Macao Tower and tried thrilling activities like the Skywalk. Of course, no trip to Macao would be complete without indulging in its delicious cuisine. I savored iconic dishes such as Portuguese egg tarts and pork chop buns, both absolutely mouthwatering. This May Day holiday was an unforgettable experience. The trip was the perfect way to relax and recharge after a busy period of study. I returned home with wonderful memories and a deeper appreciation for these two incredible cities. |
