Located in Nanshan District, Nantou Ancient Town dates back to 331 A.D. during the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420). With a history of over 1,700 years, it was the earliest administrative center in the Shenzhen area. During the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), it served as a coastal defense fortress, and was the capital of Dongguan Prefecture, which included present-day Shenzhen, Huizhou, Hong Kong and Macao. Today, it stands a picturesque cultural landmark blending 1980s architecture with ancient buildings, charming Lingnan-style alleys, and vibrant art exhibitions.
