Poetic show takes audiences on a time travel
    2025-05-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THIS Thursday and Friday, a multimedia concert, “Jinse Oriental,” will transport audiences back to ancient China — where our ancestors drank beneath the moon, sailed on tranquil boats, marveled at spring blossoms, and celebrated friendship in song.

The performance features adapted classical Chinese compositions like “A Moonlit Night on the Spring River” and “Flowing Water, High Mountains,” beloved folk melodies such as “Jasmine Flower” and “Flowing Stream,” as well as original pieces including “Jinse Oriental” and others.

Structured in four chapters, the 90-minute concert also showcases dancers on a dreamlike stage designed by rising talent Qin Guanjie. “The Song Dynasty (960–1279) marked a golden age of Chinese culture. Unlike the Tang Dynasty’s opulence and boldness, Song aesthetics were understated, refined, and elegant,” Qin explained. This sophistication — evident in the dynasty’s architecture, porcelain, sculptures, calligraphy, and paintings — inspired the show’s set design.

Lighting and multimedia designer Kong Qingliang enhances the experience with poetic visuals, using illumination, a semi-transparent veil, and an LED screen to harmonize with the music.

Blending dance, music, and Chinese opera elements, the production has toured multiple cities, offering audiences a timeless journey into the poetic heart of ancient China.

Time: 8 p.m., May 22-23

Venue: Orange Theater, Nanshan Culture and Sports Center, Nanshan District (南山文体中心聚橙剧院)

Metro: Line 12 to Nantou Ancient City Station (南头古城站), Exit E2
