

SEVEN Hong Kong movies will be screened at Broadway Cinematheque and Palace LUXE Cinema from tomorrow to June 1. These films, created between 1979 and 2014, showcase the diverse facets of Hong Kong society and offer audiences a unique journey through the development of Hong Kong cinema. ‘The Secret’ (1979) Directed by Ann Hui, this film centers on a tangled murder mystery set against a complex love triangle. As different witnesses recount conflicting stories, the case seems destined to go nowhere. ‘Man on the Brink’ (1981) An undercover cop infiltrates one of Hong Kong’s most notorious triad gangs, only to find himself increasingly consumed by a life of crime and moral decay. ‘Father and Son’ (1981) A young man dreams of a career in comics and film, but his father is determined to sacrifice everything to ensure he receives a formal education. ‘Ah Ying’ (1983) Inspired by a true story, this movie chronicles the coming-of-age of a young woman as she navigates Hong Kong’s independent film scene. ‘Love Unto Waste’ (1986) Directed by Stanley Kwan, the film follows four young people (Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Elaine Jin, Irene Wan, and Tsai Chin) living a wild lifestyle until one of them is murdered during a burglary. Their survival is scrutinized by an eccentric cop (Chow Yun-fat), revealing their deepest fears and regrets. ‘Floating City’ (2012) Set in 1940s Hong Kong, an orphan (Aaron Kwok) rises above oppressive circumstances to become a respected engineer, while struggling to uncover his origins. ‘Dot 2 Dot’ (2014) A woman newly arrived from the Chinese mainland begins exploring Hong Kong’s history and surroundings after discovering a man (Moses Chan) behind mysterious dot graffiti outside every MTR station.
