‘Tian Gong Kai Wu’

Chinese filmmaker Lu Chuan’s dance drama “Tian Gong Kai Wu” depicts the life of Song Yingxing, a Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) scientist who documented agricultural and handicraft skills in his 17th-century encyclopedia of the same name. The dance blends traditional Chinese aesthetics with contemporary stage design inspired by the book’s illustrations.
