Georgette Chen exhibition

“Georgette Chen: At Home in the World” is an extraordinary retrospective introducing Chinese-Singaporean artist Georgette Chen (1906-1993) to mainland audiences for the first time since her 1947 Shanghai solo exhibition.

Featuring 62 selected works spanning the 1930s to the 1970s, the exhibition explores her artistic journey across global cultural hubs — including Shanghai, Paris, New York, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Her art reflects a dynamic cultural dialogue of the 20th century, blending Asian modernism with international influences.

Dates: Aug. 9–Dec. 7 (closed on Mondays)

Venue: He Xiangning Art Museum, Nanshan District (何香凝美术馆)

Miyazaki music concert

Many millennials in Chinese cities fondly remember the enchanting worlds created by Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki.

This concert offers a nostalgic journey through Miyazaki’s exquisitely beautiful and wildly imaginative films. Fans will be thrilled to hear the beloved melodies from classics such as “Castle in the Sky,” “Spirited Away,” “Kiki’s Delivery Service,” and “Howl’s Moving Castle.”

Time: 3 p.m., Aug. 24

Venue: Guangming Cultural and Arts Center, Guangming District (光明文化艺术中心)

‘Murder on the Orient Express’

Following a successful tour of 25 venues across the U.K. and Ireland, the stage adaptation of Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express” embarks on its first China tour this October.

Set in the 1930s, the story centers on detective Hercule Poirot as he investigates a murder aboard a snowbound train, faced with a list of suspects and a race against time.

Time: 7:30 p.m., Oct. 16-19; also at 3 p.m., Oct. 18-19

Venue: Pingshan Theater, Pingshan District (坪山大剧院)

Metro: Line 14 to Pingshan Square Station (坪山广场站), Exit C2; then a 900-meter walk

‘The Legend of 1900’ musical

Based on Alessandro Baricco’s beloved novel, this musical delves into themes of identity, solitude, and belonging through the story of 1900, an orphaned pianist raised aboard an ocean liner.

This adaptation stars Liu Lingfei and Xu Junshuo and features an international creative team, including French composer Dove Attia and Spanish stage designer Alfons Flores. The production offers an immersive, interactive experience, especially appealing to Gen Z audiences.

Time: 8 p.m., Oct. 11-12
