CHEN CHIH-HAN, an internet influencer from China’s Taiwan who is popularly known as “Guan Zhang” or “gym boss,” will arrive in Shenzhen today for a five-day visit, which will be livestreamed to audiences.

In a short video released prior to the departure, Chen said his Shenzhen journey will offer viewers an unfiltered glimpse into the real life of Shenzhen’s residents. During the stay, Chen plans to livestream six hours per day.

Chen rose to fame in June after livestreaming a six-day visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou that challenged the misleading and often negative image painted by some forces in Taiwan, revealing a reality far different from the rhetoric many in Taiwan have been fed.

One objective of his Shanghai trip was to fact-check a statement made by a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) official on a political talk show. This official questioned whether high-speed rail seats on the mainland have backrests.

According to a Taipei-based China Times report, surveys indicate that over half of people in Taiwan have never been to the mainland.
