THE Phase 3 of Shenzhen Metro Line 8 recently completed its final power-on test run and is expected to put into service by the end of this year. With the opening of Xichong Station (溪涌站) on Line 8, what are the best places for fun and food in the area? Here is a guide to some of the top spots. Xichong Workers’ Resort Just outside the Metro station, the Xichong Workers’ Resort is a seaside destination featuring various service facilities, including seaside guest rooms, ocean-view restaurants, outdoor venues, a water sports center and a campsite. Unique photo opportunities include a French-style country chapel, the “Oriental Capel” and a sea-view glass house. Visitors can enjoy recreational activities like kayaking, sailing, beach frisbee and camping. It’s an ideal spot for family outings and gatherings with friends. Rose Coast As the first “National AAA-Level Tourist Attraction” in Dapeng New Area, the Rose Coast is Xichong’s romantic centerpiece. The beach stretches for nearly a kilometer with soft sand and clear water. It is a popular destination for wedding photography and leisure. Key attractions include a Mediterranean-style village, a Fisherman’s Wharf, coconut groves and seasonal flower fields, providing numerous spots for photos. Camping and beach volleyball are also available. Dongbei-Xichong hike For hiking enthusiasts, the Dongbei-Xichong trail is a must-try. The route begins at the Dongbei Village archway and passes by the scenic high school campus of the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China. The trail follows a stream, with fruit-bearing trees like waxberry and rose myrtle along the path. Further up the stream lies the tranquil village of Luowu. Continuing to the hills behind Xichong, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of the sea. The journey concludes by following the coastal road back to Dongbei Village. Dapeng Bay coastal trail This trail is an excellent choice for a leisurely walk with stunning sea views. Starting from the south gate of the Rose Coast, the trail passes landmarks such as the scenic “S”-shaped coastal highway, the Vanke 17 Miles villa complex, Golden Sands Beach and Xichong Resort before reaching the Beizaijiao Lighthouse. It’s a perfect place to enjoy the sea breeze and take in the coastline. Where to eat Beyond the sights, the Xichong area offers a variety of dining options to satisfy every palate, from fresh seafood and specialty farmhouse dishes to romantic ocean-view restaurants and local food stalls. Coastal Food Street Located within the Xichong Workers’ Resort, this street features a bakery, a seaside campsite and a “Little Red House,” offering a vibrant culinary atmosphere. Dishes include barbecue, bread-bowl chicken, French fries, pizza and fireside tea brewing, all enjoyed with a view of the sea. Farmhouse flavors For authentic Hakka farmhouse cuisine, head into the Xichong community. Several restaurants in Dongbei Village offer traditional Hakka dishes made with fresh, local ingredients and simple cooking methods. They are great spots for hikers and cyclists to refuel and experience a taste of rustic life.(Yang Mei) |
