‘Frida’s Paradox’

The exhibition features original oil paintings, watercolors, manuscripts, and personal items of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, with a total of 250 pieces making their debut in China. It highlights Frida’s childhood and formative years, showcases a collection of Pre-Columbian artifacts that deeply inspired her, and presents Mexican folk art that shaped her creative spirit.

Dunhuang

Said to be the largest and most comprehensive Dunhuang culture and art exhibition ever held in South China, the “Dunhuang Splendors Culture and Art Exhibition of Mogao Grottoes” showcases the richest and most extensive collection of Dunhuang relics to date.

The exhibition features 205 precious pieces and sets of relics, including digitally recreated special caves, replicated painted sculptures, reproductions of wall paintings, and more than 80 sets of rare original artifacts. Together, these exhibits offer an immersive and comprehensive presentation of the enduring culture and timeless allure of Dunhuang.

Dates: Through Nov. 23

Georgette Chen exhibition

Shenzheners now have a rare opportunity to view 62 oil paintings on loan from the National Gallery Singapore, presenting the work of Georgette Chen, a Chinese-Singaporean artist whose cross-cultural life shaped a distinctive voice in 20th-century modern art.

“Georgette Chen: At Home in the World” reunites Chen’s paintings created between the 1930s and 1970s with archival material, inviting a fresh reassessment of her contribution in Southeast Asian modern art.

Dates: Until Dec. 7

Jiang Zhaohe’s art

Artworks of Jiang Zhaohe are on display at his solo exhibition, “The Wild Trail of Mine.”

The paintings created during the wartime of the 1930s and 1940s compassionately depict homeless children and families begging on the streets, evoking a strong sense of the country’s suffering. The exhibition also features Jiang’s paintings of ancient figures such as poets Du Fu, Li Bai, Li Qingzhao, and others.
