THE highly anticipated Witches Feast will return to the Sea World Culture and Arts Center (SWCAC) in Shekou this month, transforming the venue into a vivid dreamland and inviting local art lovers on an immersive journey through visions of beauty, nightmares, surreal worlds and narrative dreams. An immersive art fair, the Witches Feast has featured a distinct theme and color palette for each edition. This year’s event, the sixth installment, centers on “dreamland.” Unlike the previous editions’ monochrome approach, this year embraces a full-spectrum color scheme to reflect the variety of dream experiences. The fair is organized into four different zones for sweet dreams, nightmares, surreal dreams and story-driven dreams, respectively. Each booth presents its own narrative. Participating artists will bring their distinctive dream worlds to life through diverse media and dream-related motifs. Their artworks, including graphic designs, illustrations, posters, comics, zines, hand-made models and art installations, are available for sale. One of the highlights of the art fair will be a 16-meter-long pillow wall, which consists of pillows of more than 130 artists. The idea of the installation is that every single pillow is connected to the dream world of that artist, and visitors can “sleep on” it to get to the dream world. The 1979 Gallery on the first floor feature another installation of dream entries from hundreds of dreamers, presented in gauze ribbon form. Visitors can walk through the installation to read segments of their dreams. Fair attendees are encouraged to dress to reflect the dream themes. Clothing and socks in color count toward the dress code, and colored accessories including shoes, handbags, hair accents, jewelry and nails, will also be considered. Guests dressed entirely in black, white or gray hues will not be admitted. Those who fail to comply must either change into appropriate attire before entering, or pay a penalty of 88 yuan (US$12.3) and wear an officially designated brooch to participate in the event. This year’s Witches Feast takes place across two separate halls within the SWCAC that are not physically connected. A single feast ticket grants access to both halls, so visitors are reminded to retain their admission tickets for entry to the second venue. Tickets are sold only via WeChat miniprogram of “魔女的盛宴” (Witches Feast) and “One蛇口” (One Shekou), and are non-refundable.
