A staffer feeds a male Pacific walrus calf nicknamed “Wo Wo” at the Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, yesterday at a celebration marking the pup’s 100-day milestone. China’s first artificially reared Pacific walrus calf, Wo Wo was born June 8 but was rejected by his mother, who failed to exhibit normal maternal imprinting. Chimelong’s veterinary team raised him on a specially formulated diet combining killer whale milk, milk from other walruses, and a custom-made powdered substitute. In 100 days, the pup has grown from 56 kg to more than 100 kg.China News Service |
