KINDERGARTENS and primary and middle schools in Shenzhen will be closed today and tomorrow due to Super Typhoon Ragasa.

Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport will suspend all flights starting at 8 p.m. today until further notice. Ferry services at the Airport Ferry Terminal are canceled through Thursday.

Shenzhen Metro Group said yesterday it may also halt services.

Rail services in Guangdong will be progressively suspended from 12 p.m. today, with updates issued dynamically as weather conditions evolve.

All train services in the province will be halted tomorrow. Services will begin to gradually resume from the early hours of Thursday as the typhoon’s impact subsides, and restored trains will be announced in real time.

Passengers should check the latest timetables on the 12306 website or mobile app and adjust travel plans accordingly. Those who receive a suspension notice or find their trains canceled may obtain a full refund without any handling fee within 30 days (inclusive) of the original departure date, either online via 12306 or at station ticket windows.

At 2 p.m. yesterday, the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory upgraded the citywide typhoon signal from white to yellow.

The observatory warned that wind and rain will begin intensifying in Shenzhen this afternoon, with the most violent period forecast from Tuesday night through Wednesday, posing an extremely high disaster risk.

At 11 a.m. yesterday, the center of Ragasa was about 939 km southeast of Shenzhen over the northwestern Pacific and moving west at roughly 20 km/h while maintaining strength, according to the National Meteorological Center.

Forecasters say Ragasa will cross the Bashi Channel and enter the South China Sea in the early hours of Tuesday. It is expected to make landfall along the central or western coast of Guangdong Province between the early hours and the afternoon tomorrow.
