Cao Zhen caozhen0806@126.com THE Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning (MOCAUP) has opened Hajime Sorayama’s “Light, Reflection, Transparency” exhibition. The retrospective, organized with Nanzuka Art Institute, presents the Japanese artist’s most significant works from the late 1970s to the present. Sorayama is internationally renowned for blending organic human forms with mechanical precision. His signature “mechanical aesthetic” has left a mark across global visual culture — impacting film, fashion and design. His collaborations with major musicians and luxury brands regularly draw global attention. The exhibition title reflects Sorayama’s central concern: using paint to render light — a challenge that requires mastering the representation of air, transparency and reflection. This approach highlights the interplay of art and technology and cements his unique place in contemporary visual arts. Dates: Through Jan. 11, 2026 Venue: MOCAUP, Futian District (深圳市当代艺术与城市规划馆) Metro: Line 3 or 4 to Children’s Palace Station (少年宫站), Exit A2 (Here are photos taken by Shenzhen Daily photographer Lin Songtao at the Shenzhen exhibition, highlighting Sorayama’s unique mechanical aesthetics across diverse works.) |
