Autumn flower show at Fairy Lake
    2025-11-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN is never short of flowers, from parks to streets, but to see a wide variety of seasonal and rare blooms in one place, visit Fairy Lake Botanical Garden, where an autumn flower show is now running.

The display features over 200 varieties and more than 100,000 plants from families such as Asteraceae, Plantaginaceae, Lamiaceae, Caryophyllaceae, and Asparagaceae. It ranges from finely textured, carpet-like Korean mums to tall, lush silverling, and also spotlights newly cultivated horticultural varieties such as garden mums and high-stem Dutch chrysanthemums.

On the lakeside lawn, the botanical garden has used bamboo trimmings, broken branches, fallen trunks, and recycled materials from previous exhibitions to adorn more than 150 asteraceous species. On the bodhi tree lawn, a sweeping sea of flowers takes center stage: Vigorous sunflowers interplanted with zinnias, sulfur cosmos, and common cosmos create a golden expanse that seems to sway and surge.

The Gesneriad Exhibition Hall presents over 200 gesneriad varieties. For the first time on display are the nationally first-level protected wild plant oreocharis esquirolii and the second-level protected species primulina tabacum and petrocosmea qinlingensis.

Also featured are whimsical, spotted African violets, the brightly colored and hardy flame violets, and the delicate petrocosmea duclouxii. Visitors can discover other unusual plants such as primulina eburnea, primulina hedyotidea, two‑flowered nightshade, and false sinningia, experiencing the unique charm of these niche blooms.

Stroll along flower-lined streets, take part in interactive activities, and explore the botanical garden’s other themed areas. In the crape myrtle garden, a floral lifestyle market decorated with potted bougainvillea, sunflowers, and other plants creates a delightful scene, offering visitors a memorable autumn filled with the scent of flowers and the warmth of seasonal festivities.
