
UNDER the baton of American conductor Mason Lubert, the Wien Klang Sinfonietta (the Voice of Vienna Symphony Orchestra of Austria) will present a festive concert on Christmas evening, featuring works by Johann Strauss Jr., Dvořák, and Fritz Kreisler, alongside Chinese folk melodies and beloved opera arias. The performance will headline soprano Tanja Ruzdjak and violinist Evgenii Artemenkov. Specializing in contemporary orchestral music and opera, Lubert served as assistant conductor and conducting fellow at the 2023 Mostly Modern Festival in Saratoga Springs, New York. In 2022, he conducted the Hungarian premiere of Unsuk Chin’s “Double Concerto.” He also led the world premieres of Hannah Eisendle’s “Crushed Ice” (2019) and “Mechanical Minds” by Emmy-winning composer Jake Runestad. In 2023, he assisted Daniel Harding and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in a program featuring Richard Strauss’ “Eine Alpensinfonie.” Lubert trained in conducting and opera coaching at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, studying under Mark Stringer and Yuji Yuasa. He earned a Magister Artium with distinction in October 2020. Born in Russia in 1998, Artemenkov began violin studies at the Samara Municipal Music School under Irina Kaverina. He joined the Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Yuri Bashmet, initially as a second violinist and later as concertmaster. At 14, he studied under Professor Iliya Tkachenko at the Moscow State College of Musical Performance. Since 2017, Artemenkov has resided in Vienna, studying under Professor Anna Kandinskaya at the Joseph Haydn Conservatory in Eisenstadt. He is the second violinist of the Kandinsky Quartet, founded in September 2020. Ruzdjak, a freelance soprano from Croatia, has won several international vocal competitions, including the Janis Zabers in Latvia, Gabriela Benačkova in the Czech Republic, Allegro Vivo in Austria, IMC Maribor in Slovenia, and the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra Award in Croatia. She made her debut as Mimi in “La Bohème” at the Croatian National Theater in Osijek in 2014 and has since performed at festivals and opera houses across Europe. She is a graduate of the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and the Music Academy in Zagreb.
