Star-studded concert to unveil cultural landmark in Futian
    2025-12-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A STAR-STUDDED concert headlined by pianist Lang Lang will mark the opening of the Antuoshan Public Cultural Center (APCC), a new landmark in Futian District, at the end of this month.

Built on the site of a former quarry in the Antuo Hill area, the public cultural facility spans more than 100,000 square meters. It houses museums, a theater, retail spaces, and outdoor areas set amid lush greenery overlooking Shenzhen Bay.

Conducted by Lin Daye, music director of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SZSO), the concert will inaugurate the APCC on Dec. 26.

In addition to Lang Lang, the performance will feature violinist Wu Qian and cellist Karen Kocharyan.

The first half of the program will include well-known classical pieces such as Bernstein’s “Candide Overture,” “The Swan” from Saint-Saëns’ “Carnival of the Animals,” Carlos Gardel’s tango “Por Una Cabeza,” and the “Intermezzo” from Mascagni’s opera “Cavalleria Rusticana.”

In the second half, Lang Lang — one of China’s most celebrated piano virtuosos — will take the spotlight in Ravel’s “Piano Concerto in G Major.” A brilliant and original work from the 20th-century piano repertoire, the concerto is vibrant and colorful. Its fusion of jazz elements with the European classical tradition created a unique blend that left a lasting imprint on music history.

With an energetic, jazzy first movement, a lyrical second movement, and a witty yet demanding finale, the piece fully showcases Ravel’s skill in blending genres and styles without sacrificing his distinctive elegance.

The performance will run for 80 minutes, including an intermission.
