A NEW shuttle linking the terminus of the Shenzhen Metro Line 6 spur with the terminus of Dongguan Metro Line 1 has launched, offering a seamless connection between the metro networks of the two cities and drawing keen interest from cross‑city commuters. Dongguan’s Metro Line 1 began passenger service on Nov. 28. The line runs 57.478 kilometers and serves 25 stations, connecting 10 townships and industrial parks. It intersects the already‑operational Line 2, further expanding Dongguan’s metro network. The line is planned to eventually run through Guangzhou’s Huangpu New Port to the north. Commuters can transfer between the two cities’ underground rail systems via the newly opened shuttle bus. After exiting SUAT Station (深理工站) — the terminus of the Line 6 spur — passengers can board the shuttle directly to Meitang Station (梅塘站), the terminus of Dongguan Line 1. The shuttle runs from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., every 10-15 minutes. A single fare costs just 3 yuan (US$0.43). The main line of Shenzhen Metro Line 6 begins at Science Museum Station in Futian District, passes key stops including Shenzhen North Railway Station, Longhua, Shiyan and Guangming, and terminates at Songgang in Bao’an District. It spans 49.7 kilometers and has 27 stations. Its northern spur departs from Guangming and runs roughly 6.13 kilometers to the border of Shenzhen and Dongguan, with four stations along the route. Transport authorities in both cities are pursuing further rail interconnections. Plans include an eastward extension of Line 10 and a northward extension of Line 11 to connect with Dongguan Metro Line 3. Upon completion, these links will enable direct rail access between Shenzhen and Dongguan’s Fenggang, Songshanhu and Binhaiwan New Area, further integrating the regional transit network.
