A COMPACT autonomous vehicle recently introduced at Qianhai Stone Park in Qianhai has gone viral on the internet, drawing attention from parkgoers and netizens alike for its robot-like appearance and leisurely ride. The three-seater vehicle rents for 45 yuan (about US$6) per 30 minutes, with an additional charge of 11 yuan for every extra 10 minutes. On a full charge, the shuttle can operate for about four to five hours. It can navigate the park autonomously, automatically avoiding pedestrians and obstacles, and applying rapid braking in sudden situations. A manual emergency-stop button inside the vehicle allows riders to stop the vehicle instantly if needed. Park visitors lauded the new service, saying that it showcases Shenzhen’s tech power. “It looks like a robot, completely different from traditional bikes,” one parkgoer said. Many online users said they’re going to try it. The shuttle service offers a tech-forward way to tour the park without having to walk. Many local residents and visitors are already eager to experience a slow, relaxing ride on the unmanned vehicle.
