New Metro extension offers easy reach to Dapeng’s charms
    2025-12-17  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE highly anticipated third phase of Metro Line 8 is on track to open at the end of this month, promising a faster, smoother journey to one of the city’s most beloved natural escapes.

This new extension, stretching from Xiaomeisha Station to its terminus at Xichong Station, is more than just a convenience for weekend travelers. It represents a vital new artery, seamlessly linking the five districts of Longgang, Yantian, Luohu, Futian, and Nanshan.

Dapeng Peninsula’s 125-kilometer coastline, which accounts for nearly half of Shenzhen’s total, is a masterpiece of coves, cliffs, and sandy shores. Of the city’s 50 beaches, a staggering 48 are nestled in Dapeng.

The sea breeze rolls in from the vast, azure expanse, gently rustling through forests that blanket 77.35% of the peninsula. This rich ecosystem is home to over 64% of Shenzhen’s wild plant species, making it a haven for wildlife and hiking enthusiasts alike.

With the new Metro line, the gateway to this paradise will be Xichong Station. Here’s how to craft your perfect Dapeng getaway upon arrival.

Xichong Resort

Stepping off the Metro, your first taste of Dapeng is just a 900-meter walk away. Xichong Resort offers a more laid-back alternative to some of Shenzhen’s busier shores.

With over 600 meters of clean sand and clear water, it’s ideal for a swim. The beach also caters perfectly to families with its camping and barbecue facilities.

Address: 1085 Shenkui Road, Longgang District (900m from Xichong Station)

Hours: 9 a.m.–7 p.m.

Shenkui Road

Dubbed “Shenzhen’s most scenic coastal highway,” the 4.35-km Shenkui Road is an attraction in itself. This winding road carves a path between emerald mountains and the sapphire sea, with every turn revealing another breathtaking vista. A dedicated seaside boardwalk runs alongside, inviting you to park your car and soak in the views at a leisurely pace.

Tips: Never stop on the road itself, and always prioritize safety over that perfect photo.

Address: Near Vanke 17 Miles and Golden Bay, Dapeng New Area (2.3 km from Xichong Station)

Rose Coast

A short drive further along Shenkui Road brings you to Rose Coast, a long-standing favorite for seaside photo-shoots. It’s common to see newlyweds posing against the backdrop of the ocean and the beach’s artful installations.

Address: Dapeng Bay, Kuichong Subdistrict, Dapeng New Area (3.4 km from Xichong Station)

Hours: 7 a.m.–8 p.m. (Mon-Fri), 7 a.m.–10 p.m. (Sat-Sun)

Xichong Coastal Boardwalk

For unparalleled ocean views, head to the newly opened Xichong Coastal Boardwalk.

Its centerpiece is a stunning spiral section that loops out over the water, offering an unobstructed 360-degree panorama of the sea — the ultimate spot for contemplation and photos.

Address: Kuichong Subdistrict, Dapeng New Area (The starting point is 2.5 km from Xichong Station)

Dongbei-Maluan Mountain hike

For those craving an inland adventure, the hiking trail from Dongbei Village to Maluan Mountain Country Park is a must. This path connects the coast to the highlands, leading you through rich forests to a hidden, cascading waterfall.

Trailhead: Dongbei Village, Xiping Road, Longgang District (2.7 km from Xichong Station)

Route: Dongbei Village — Pingda Poetry Handmade Trail — Maluan Mountain waterfall

Tips: Wear proper hiking shoes, bring supplies, travel with a partner, and research the trail beforehand.

Beizaijiao Boardwalk, Lighthouse

At the eastern end of the Yantian Coastal Walk lies the ruggedly beautiful Beizaijiao Boardwalk. It winds past coves of clear water and intriguing rock formations, culminating at a classic red-and-white lighthouse — a picture-perfect scene on a clear day.

Tips: Check for maintenance closures before you go. Stay on the boardwalk and avoid imitating risky behavior from anglers. Visit during the day.

Address: Beizaijiao Boardwalk (The lighthouse is at the end), 3 km from Xichong Station

Nan’ao No.1 Beach

Venture a bit further (about a 24-minute drive from Xichong Station) to reach the heart of Dapeng —Nan’ao. Its main draw is Nan’ao No.1 Beach, where rows of colorful houses line the brilliant blue bay, earning it the charming nickname “Little Cuba of Shenzhen.”

Address: Nan’ao Subdistrict, Dapeng New Area (Zhang Yu)
