AI devices boost multilingual services in Pingshan
    2025-12-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Pingshan District Government Service Center has recently installed AI translation devices at its service counters. These devices feature double-sided displays that show real-time translations, allowing staff and foreign visitors to read translations during face-to-face conversations.

The devices integrate technologies such as speech recognition, DeepSeek, and the Spark large model to facilitate translation between 14 languages, including Chinese, English and French.

A Pakistani woman who tried the AI screen praised its speed and accuracy. “This translation device is very useful. My matter was resolved very quickly, and the staff at the Pingshan service counter were very friendly and efficient!”

Pingshan has also deployed a batch of card-sized smart devices at various government service venues. These devices support instant translation across multiple languages and allow users to access policy details, service guides, and government service maps by tapping them to an NFC-enabled smartphone. The initiative has received widespread praise from foreign residents.

Recently, a company in Pingshan Subdistrict hired more than 20 foreign employees who urgently needed assistance with residency and employment procedures. Because of tight R&D schedules and the number of people involved, they could not all visit the district government service center together.

After the company requested help, the service station in the industrial park organized a team to provide on-site assistance. With the help of the AI translators, procedures for all 20‑plus employees were completed on the same day, earning praise from the company's management.

These on-site, customized services have significantly improved the convenience of government procedures and been widely welcomed by enterprises, helping to optimize Pingshan’s business environment.

This year, Pingshan has launched several initiatives to improve services for foreigners. Since August, the district has held two English training sessions for government service staff to enhance their communication skills and cultural competence.

Pingshan also conducted a comprehensive review and upgrade of foreign-language signage at 39 government service venues across the district. Several new Chinese-English signs have been added to the district government service center to provide clearer, more intuitive guidance, greatly aiding foreign visitors.

As early as December 2021, Pingshan selected tax and social security staff with foreign-language proficiency to offer “one-stop” social security and tax services at the district government service center for residents, including foreigners, effectively addressing difficulties in handling social security and tax matters.(Cao Zhen)
