Maglev world record

CHINA has set a world speed record for superconductive maglev by accelerating a ton-scale test vehicle to 700 km/h in just two seconds, according to China Central Television.

The test, conducted by the National University of Defense Technology on a 400-meter track, achieved safe operation and braking under heavy loads. Over the past decade, the team has tackled key technical challenges, including ultra-high-speed electromagnetic propulsion and high-field superconducting magnets.

Manned submersibles

IN deep-sea exploration, China’s three manned submersibles — Fendouzhe, Shenhai Yongshi, and Jiaolong — have together completed 1,746 dives to date. The Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering reported that they are set to complete 314 dives this year.

This year, Fendouzhe carried out China’s first scientific manned dive in the heavily iced Arctic Ocean and supported an international mission in New Zealand’s Puysegur Trench. Meanwhile, Shenhai Yongshi performed 18 archaeological dives in the South China Sea, working with unmanned vehicles to advance deep-sea archaeological discovery.
