SHENZHEN-BASED smartphone company Honor showcased the physical prototype of its highly anticipated Robot Phone — a device poised to redefine the future of mobile technology at the year-end “AI Shines in China” event hosted by prominent financial writer Wu Xiaobo in Xiamen on Sunday. During the presentation, a robot dog walked steadily onto the stage carrying the uniquely designed Honor Robot Phone. Wu lifted the product, described as the “world’s first Robot Phone,” from the robot’s back, offering the audience a first look at what Honor calls an entirely new category of AI-powered device. The Robot Phone, first teased in a concept video last October, integrates multi-modal AI intelligence, robotic functionality, and advanced handheld imaging capabilities. According to Honor, it represents more than an incremental upgrade — it is a “new species” of device that will reshape human-machine interaction and coexistence. Scheduled for an official global debut at Mobile World Congress 2026, the Robot Phone combines AI, advanced sensors, and human intent recognition to deliver what the company describes as an “emotional companion.” It is designed to sense, adapt, and evolve autonomously, enriching users’ lives with what Honor refers to as “love, joy, and wisdom.” A standout feature is its built-in gimbal-mounted camera, which extends from the rear of the device. Powered by a motorized arm, the camera can move freely and capture photos and videos from nearly any angle. Even when the phone is placed face down, the camera can observe its surroundings, creating a sense of environmental awareness. In promotional material, the Robot Phone is shown engaging in a range of activities — from entertaining children and capturing selfies to accompanying users in adventurous scenarios such as skydiving and stargazing. The device also emits responsive sound effects, described as a blend of “wheee, ohhhh, bleep, and coooo,” evoking the playful personality of characters like R2-D2 and Grogu from Star Wars. Honor states that the Robot Phone positions the company at the forefront of AI device innovation, marking a significant step forward in how people interact with technology. By merging robotics with personal communication, Honor aims to create not just a tool, but an intelligent and interactive companion for daily life. (SD News) |
