A winter in pink: Chasing the city’s floral magic
    2026-01-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN’S winter is never heavy. The sun is warm without being harsh, and the breeze is gentle. It’s the perfect season to step outside and enjoy the pink trumpet trees (Tabebuia rosea) that drape the city in a soft pink-lilac veil. From November through March, these South American natives burst into bloom, carpeting streets and parks with clouds of delicate blossoms and a subtle, elegant fragrance. Here are the best places to find that fleeting floral magic.

Huihai Road 汇海路

When the pink trumpet trees bloom, Huihai Road becomes one of Nanshan’s most photogenic urban stretches. Rows of pink-lilac flower clusters hang heavily from the branches, their reflections shimmering on the glass curtain walls of surrounding high-rises. The contrast of lush blossoms against sleek modern architecture turns every corner into a ready-made photo opportunity — no careful composition needed to capture an atmospheric portrait.

Coastal Shoreline Park 滨海岸线公园

A short walk from Huihai Road, Coastal Shoreline Park offers a wide, open stage for the flowering trees. A wooden boardwind meanders along the shoreline like a natural flower trail, flanked on both sides by soft pink blooms. Here, the sea breeze carries a hint of salt that mingles with the floral perfume. Look up to a canopy of blossoms, down the stretching boardwalk, or ahead to the open blue water — ideal for a leisurely flower-viewing bike ride or a contemplative stroll.

Qianhai Stone Park (Guiwan section) 前海石公园(桂湾段)

Tucked away in the Guiwan section of Qianhai Stone Park is a relatively new floral hideaway that has quietly transformed into a pocket of dreamy pink-lilac blossoms. Wandering here feels like stepping into a fairytale: Flowers cling to every branch, sunlight filters through the floral canopy, and each turn reveals another heartwarming view.

Houhai Zhongxin River Park 后海中心河公园

The banks of Houhai Zhongxin River are washed in romantic pink. Here, pink trumpet trees bloom alongside vivid rhododendrons, weaving a flowing “river of flowers.” Wide, flat paths invite easy wandering, with petals drifting down like confetti as you walk. The park has a lively neighborhood feel — children racing home from school, parents pushing strollers, office workers unwinding after hours — and at dusk, the scene turns especially serene.
