‘Hands off Greenland’: protesters push back at US takeover bid
    2026-01-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

People attend a demonstration against U.S. actions and remarks suggesting control over Greenland in Nuuk, capital of Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, on Saturday. Thousands protested in Nuuk and Copenhagen on Saturday, bundled against the January cold, waving Danish and Greenlandic flags and chanting “Greenland is not for sale” and “Hands off Greenland.” The demonstrations denounced recent U.S. remarks suggesting control over Greenland, where the U.S. maintains a military base. In a social media post Saturday, Trump further escalated tensions by announcing new tariffs on eight European nations, including Denmark, warning they would increase until a deal is reached for the “complete and total purchase” of Greenland.Xinhua
