More quiet carriages on track as Spring Festival travel rush begins
    2026-02-02  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A train attendant carries a reminder sign through a quiet carriage of the G8 high-speed train from Shanghai Hongqiao to Beijing South yesterday, when China’s high-speed railway network expanded its silent-travel service to cover over 8,000 bullet trains. The upgrade coincides with the start of the world’s largest annual migration — the Spring Festival travel rush, which begins today. Running through March 13, this year’s travel rush period is expected to see a record 9.5 billion trips nationwide. This year’s Spring Festival — the most important family reunion occasion in China — falls on Feb. 17. The official public holiday spans nine days, driving the extended surge in travel demand across the country. China News Service
