China secures historic overseas medal haul at Milan-Cortina
    2026-02-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Su Yiming, flagbearer for the Chinese delegation, marches during the closing ceremony of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics at Verona Olympic Arena in Italy on Sunday. The 17-day Games concluded with broad participation, historic breakthroughs, and China’s best-ever performance at an overseas Winter Olympics. A total of 2,880 athletes from 93 delegations competed across 116 events in eight sports — including first-time Winter Olympic entrants Benin, Guinea-Bissau, and the United Arab Emirates. Norway topped the medal table with 18 gold, 12 silver, and 11 bronze medals, followed by the U.S. and the Netherlands. China sent its largest-ever delegation to an overseas Winter Games, fielding 126 athletes in 91 events across 15 disciplines. The team secured five gold, four silver, and six bronze medals — its best result at an overseas Winter Olympics — while matching its overall medal count from Beijing 2022. Xinhua
