Yingge dance takes Spain by storm
    2026-02-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Members of the Puning Fumei Youth Yingge Team from Guangdong perform during a Chinese Lunar New Year parade in Madrid, Spain, on Sunday, drawing more than 10,000 spectators. The event marked the second stop of the team’s European tour, following its performance in Russia. In a historic first, Spain officially released a Yingge-themed commemorative stamp during the celebration. Dating back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the Yingge dance, or “dance to the hero’s song,” is a traditional form of folk dance that blends elements of opera, dance, and martial arts. It was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006. This vibrant art form has gained renewed popularity in recent years, with videos of performances going viral on social media platforms and garnering millions of views online over the past two years.Xinhua
