A NEW exhibition at Shenzhen Museum’s history and folk culture division features 75 exquisite works by five Chinese masters: Wang Guoli, Cao Jiayong, Pei Yongzhong, Huang Weixiong, and Zhang Qinglei.

The artists bring distinctive styles and high level of technical skill. Their works have won national awards and received acclaim at home and abroad. The exhibition spans metalwork, hand-woven tapestries, art-cast glass, inkstone carving, ceramics, embroidery, jade carving, and more, offering aesthetic reflections on life and underscoring the cultural depth and innovative fusion of traditional aesthetics with contemporary design.

Many pieces combine deep cultural heritage with unique artistic approaches. Several bronze sculptures draw on pre-Qin (221-207 B.C.) bronzes, ancient warhorses, and other traditional motifs, reinterpreting them with a blend of classical charm and modern language.

Some stone carvings are inspired by renowned ancient artworks; the artists exploit the stone’s natural color variations and diverse carving techniques to evoke the essence of masterpieces.

A porcelain painting series inspired by the Chinese novel “Dream of the Red Chamber” uses traditional Chinese fine brush techniques together with ceramic coloring to showcase the harmony between classic literature and ceramic art.

Bead embroidery works take motifs from flowers, birds, fish, and insects and combine multicolored threads, glass beads, and sequins to merge traditional techniques with painterly methods, producing richly layered visual effects.

Some jade carvings draw on Han Dynasty (202 B.C.-220 A.D.) animal sculpting styles while incorporating contemporary aesthetics, conveying the enduring charm of Eastern art. Other works reflect Shenzhen’s landscapes and urban spirit, expressing the vitality of the city’s development.

The exhibition is part of the “Shenzhen Art Gallery — Promoting Local Artists Series Exhibition (2025-2026),” a key project of the Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Art Circles’ Shenzhen Community Art Season. The works will later tour other venues across Shenzhen.

During the run, collaborative events including photography workshops with Vivo take place. For updates, follow the Shenzhen Museum’s official WeChat account (ID: iszbwg).

Venue: Shenzhen Museum’s history and folk culture division, Jintian Road, Futian District (深圳博物馆金田路馆-历史民俗)
